The Blue Devil football team’s run game looked dominant, and couldn’t be stopped last Friday in the annual Backyard Brawl.
With the unstoppable run game, and lights out defense that was enough for the Blue Devils to get the win over Tyrone 26-7.
The Blue Devils defense was immaculate causing, 5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 6 QB hurries.
“Those turnovers were huge,” Coach Nick Lovrich said of his team’s first-half takeaways. “On the (kickoff), Colin Gibbons did a great job of making the tackle, and then we had guys flowing to the ball and knocking it loose. The interception was just Chase reading the play.”
The victory made it two in a row for the Blue Devils and bumps their season record to 3-2. As for the Golden Eagles the loss dropped their record to 3-2.
The Blue Devils forced a fumble on the opening kick off to set them up with great field positioning to start the game.
The Blue Devils capitalized with a 3 yard rushing touchdown by Junior Alex McCartney.
The rest of the first quarter seemed quiet until Senior Quarterback Eli Woomer threw a interception to Junior Chase Plummer, which he returned it for a touchdown.
The score put the Blue devils up 14-0 with 30 seconds left in the 1st quarter.
The second quarter was quiet with neither team finding the endzone at all.
To start the half Bellwood recieved the kickoff. It didn’t take long for the Blue Devils to find the endzone. With 8:00 left in the third quarter McCartney ran for a 12 yard rushing touchdown to put to Blue Devils up 20-0.
Just a few short minutes later Tyrone looked as if they had a little bit of life left. Tyrone’s Eli Woomer connected with Brayden Parsons for a 78 yard passing touchdown to make the score 20-7.
The score remained the same going into the fourth quarter.
McCartney continued his success on the ground, with a 16 yard rushing touchdown to put the Blue Devils up 26-7 with only 9 minutes left in the game.
That score was the last from both teams as the final score went on to stay the same.
Bellwood-Antis will now travel to Philipsburg-Osceola to take on the Mountaineers on Friday. The last time these teams matched up it was a one sided contest as Bellwood won 28-0.
