Last week B-A crushed the Tyron Golden Eagles in a dominant road win, 26-7. This week the Blue Devils go on the road again this week to face the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers in an exciting match up.
The Blue Devils go into this week on a 2-game win streak at 3-2, while the Mountaineers are coming off a loss against Bald Eagle Area and also have a record of 3-2. The Mountaineers love to run the ball and have 192 carries this season for 1,014 yards. Their passing game has produced 470 yards.
“PO is a very good football team with some talented athletes. We are very impressed with their line play and the backs,” said B-A coach Nick Lovrich. “It should be an old fashion, hard fought football game.”
Both the Devils and Mounties have played Clearfield on the road with Bellwood winning 28-21 and Philipsburg losing 27-15.
The Mountaineers this season averages 94.0 passing yards and 202.8 rushing yards per game look consistent in the run game.
The Blue Devils are no slouches in the running department themselves and want to keep running the ball. This season they have 200 carries and 985 rushing yards.
The Blue Devils rushing game was looking great last week, generating 255 yards and 3 touchdowns. Alex McCartney went 21 carries for 149 yards and scored three times. This season McCartney has 113 carries and 633 yards and Bradyn Partner has thrown 32 passes with 16 completions for 217 yards
“Our running game has led us to win games in these last few weeks,” Jackson Dorminy said.
Bellwood’s defense held the Eagles to only one touchdown and Jeffery Waite and Chase Plummer had 2 interceptions, with Plummer getting a pick six. B-A’s defense has been looking good, in general, holding the last 3 teams they have played to 7 points or lower. They have produced 6 interceptions and 5 forced fumbles and 6 fumbles recovered.
On the other hand, the Mountaineers couldn’t get their offense rolling in the 21-14 loss to BEA. Quarterback Archer Baughman was just u7-for-18 and their ground game put out just 99 yards. On the season, Archer Baughman has thrown 64 passes and 35 completions for 470 yards and Colton Chapman has 93 carries for 433 yards.
This weeks game is a Laurel Highlands Conference East Division 1 game at Philipsburg-Osceola High School and a win could help B-A jump up in the Class 2A rankings as the District playoffs approach. The Devils are currently ranked No. 7.
