Last week, the Blue Devils destroyed River Valley 42-16 in a District 6 2A quarterfinal, moving their record to 7-4. This week in the District 6 semi-finals, the Blue Devils travel to Richland to take on the N0. 2 Rams and looking for a massive win.
“This week we need to stay alert on the defensive side of the ball. They like to pass but they can run the ball too, so we have to watch out,” said Jackson Dorminy.
Last week, Alex McCartney ran for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns, along with teammate Chase Plummer, who had 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Blue Devils passing game was decent with Bradyn Partner throwing for 64 yards and a touchdown pass to Colin Gibbons. Colin Gibbons had 2 touchdowns Friday night.
McCartney and Plummer combined to score 30 of B-A’s points.
“Running up the middle, to where the lineman can pick up the second line linebackers to be able to get up through the hole, helps us the score,” said running back Chase Plummer.
Bellwood’s defense played great, holding Valley to 16 points and registering an interception by Curtis Shedlock. However, that unit will be tested by the Rams, who have just one loss this season.
Richland last week beat United Valley 35-12 for its tenth win. Richland can throw the ball around with their quarterback Jacob Regan passing for 178 yards and a touchdown last week alone He’s got more than 2,200 passing yards and 27 touchdowns on the season.
The run game was there, too producing 382 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Rams average 174 rushing yards per game behind Grayson Mahla’s 776 yards.
Richland’s wide receiver core will test B-A’s secondary.
This game will determine who makes it to the District 6 2A championship, likely to face Bishop McCort.
The Blue Devils came to this point last year and lost to Cambria Heights.
”We are going to go out there and play our hardest. We do not want to be go out the same way we did last year,” said Bryson Hescox.
