McCartney Joins Exclusive Group Of B-A Running Backs

Alex McCartney rushed for 1,000+ yards in his freshman, junior and senior season. He is one of just six guys at Bellwood-Antis that have rushed for 1,000 yards twice in their career, and he is now one of two guys to rush for 1,000+ yards in a season three times in his career.

McCartney broke 1,000 yards last Friday against Bellefonte. He rushed for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns on 25 carries; getting him to 1,003 yards on the season.

He joins one of the Blue Devils' all-time greats, Josh Kleinfelter, as just the second B-A running back to rush for 1,000 yards 3 times during his career.

Kleinfelter, a graduate of the class of 2007, is the only running back in Bellwood-Antis history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. He was named Area Player of the Year his senior year, and he continued his athletic career at Lycoming College where he had a successful career.

Head coach Nick Lovrich said that the two runners share many similarities.

"When you compare the two runners, they have a lot of similarities. Both Josh and Alex have great work ethics in the weight room and the practice field. They were both strong and had a good combination of speed and power when running the ball," Lovrich said.

He also added they were both great teammates.

"They would both compliment their lines for the achievements that they accomplished during their careers. We have been very lucky to have the two running backs in our program."

McCartney says he is grateful for the opportunity, but his goals for this season are focused on the team.

"It feels great to have that opportunity,” Alex said. “A lot of off-season work has gone in to getting to this point. However, the ultimate achievement would be winning the district 6 2A Championship for the second time in school history."

McCartney will look to add onto his stats this Friday when the Blue Devils travel to Central Cambria.
